Coaching Staff
Head Coach: Rand Payton
During his first year coaching, Rand was the 2023 USA Lacrosse Alabama Girls’ High School Coach of the Year! He quickly turned the SPHS Girls HS program into a successful team with state playoff appearances in 2024 (state runner-up), and 2025 (state semi-finals). He has fostered a culture where the team is truly family.
In addition, Rand is the Head Coach for the BLKOUT Lacrosse program, a competitive summer and fall travel club for Birmingham girls 6-12, established in Fall 2021.
Assistant Coach: Joe Thomas
Joe Thomas joined the squad in Spring 2025, providing assistance to Head Coach Rand Payton on and off the field, including video operations. Joe is the father of player twins, Elizabeth and Bella Thomas.
